“Evidence shows not only the geographic spread of anti-Christian persecution, but also its increasing severity. In some regions, the level and nature of persecution is arguably coming close to meeting the international definition of genocide, according to that adopted by the UN. The eradication of Christians and other minorities on pain of ‘the sword’ or other violent means was revealed to be the specific and stated objective of extremist groups in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, north-east Nigeria and the Philippines. An intent to erase all evidence of the Christian presence was made plain by the removal of crosses, the destruction of Church buildings and other Church symbols. The killing and abduction of clergy represented a direct attack on the Church’s structure and leadership. Where these and other incidents meet the tests of genocide, governments will be required to bring perpetrators to justice, aid victims and take preventative measures for the future,” the report says.
Please note location change was communicated to us vs. what was originally printed in the bulletin. Somerset County National Day of Prayer LOCATION CHANGE: Due to the high chance of thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon and evening, we have decided to hold the 2019 Somerset County National Day of Prayer at our inclement weather location, the Somerville YMCA, 2 Green Street (the corner of Green and N. Bridge Streets). The event will begin at 7:00 pm. There is a small parking lot and street parking all around the YMCA and free parking all along the street. There will be limited seating so folks are still welcome to bring their folding chairs. We will still be collecting food for SHIP.
Please note that the gathering to pray the scriptural rosary will be cancelled this Thursday, May 2nd due to Confirmation. We will gather in the chapel on Thursday, May 9th at 7pm.
Please read below and consider donating this Sunday, April 28th here at St. Bernard from 830am - 130pm. The Blood Mobile will be in our parking lot. Thank you! Subject: Important Message regarding blood supply-Blood Shortage (Wait…wasn’t there just a blood emergency a few months ago? Why is there another shortage?) New York Blood Center (NYBC) is announcing a Blood Emergency Thursday, April 25th. Media outlets are being asked to cover several large blood drives to help get the word out about the urgent need for increased donations. We are hoping this intense press coverage will gain mass attention and help us recruit more blood donors and help make them committed donors for life. We are asking our partners, like you, to share the urgency of the situation and encourage everyone who is eligible to donate at your next drive. You may have noticed that NYBC has been alerting you with increased frequency that we are in a blood emergency. There is a 10 year trend of declining blood donations that needs to be immediately turned around. The reasons are many. Flexible work schedules, telecommuting, changes in the way people communicate, the aging out of our legacy of WWII era blood donors, have all contributed to a 30% decline over the last 10 years. In addition, blood centers had to change how they operated to keep in line with the changing healthcare system landscape by limiting certain resources to attract more donors and donor groups. Complicating the situation is the fact that several blood centers have closed their doors over the past several years with NYBC stepping in to fill the critical void to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply for all. This has become the perfect storm and we are relying on our partnerships to turn this crisis around. Your upcoming blood drive is of utmost importance. Please let us know how we can assist in encouraging more donations. If you don’t have a drive scheduled over the summer and can add an additional drive that would also help to make a difference in the decline. Together we can change this trajectory.
